A super-are Vauxhall that’s had a whopping £230,000 spent on its comprehensive restoration is tipped to fetch just a fifth of that when it’s auctioned next month.
H&H Classics is selling the Vauxhall GY 25 Wingham Cabriolet – one of only five known survivors – at its IWM Duxford sale on 9 October with a guide price of £40-45k.
Around 6800 examples were built between 1937 and 1940, with the 1939/40 models being used as RAF ambulances and staff cars during WW2. This one is now being offered following long-term previous ownership. It was built in 1938 and fitted with the original hand-made body by Martin-Walter of Folkestone; it has since been restored over the course of 50 years.
H&H Classics’ sales manager, James McWilliam, told CCW: ‘This is a fantastic opportunity to own a slice of motoring history with this stunning Vauxhall GY 25 Wingham Cabriolet. It has been restored to a high standard and is a rare chance to own a car of which only five examples are known to have survived.’ Chris Frear
