A one-of-one 1976 Ford Escort RS 2000 built for Henry Ford II when he toured Europe and the UK in the 1970s is heading to auction with an estimate of £50-60k as part of Iconic Auctioneers’ Unique Ford Collection Sale at The Silverstone Festival on 24 August.
The car was built specifically for the head of the Ford Motor Company and its unique spec includes Roman Bronze metallic paint, a cream leather interior and automatic transmission.
Having covered just 44,000 miles, it's been under the radar for 20 years although it is thought to have been displayed at the Ford Heritage Centre.
'This is such a one-off vehicle that it just adds to its potential collectability and value'
Iconic Auctions’ Gary Dunne said: ‘To own the Ford that was the personal car of Henry Ford II while he was living in the UK is a case of driving history. This is such a one-off vehicle that it just adds to its potential collectability and value.
‘The guy who collected all five cars in this collection was a huge Ford aficionado and hell-bent on acquiring the Escort given its history of ownership by Henry Ford II, the oldest grandson of the founder of the Ford brand.’
