A former Top Gear presenter has started a YouTube channel celebrating 1990s classics – and is on the lookout for cars from that decade to appear in future episodes.
Motoring journalist and CCW contributor, Steve Berry, who appeared on the BBC motoring show between 1993 and 1999, launched BIG In The ’90s to champion mass-produced cars from what he argues is ‘the greatest decade in motoring history’. Steve road-tested many cars now eligible for the series in period during his stint on Top Gear, including an Alfa Romeo 166, SEAT Toledo, Daewoo Leganza and WJ-era Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Six reviews of Nineties cars have been released on the channel so far, focusing on the C5-generation Audi A6, original Mercedes-Benz CLK, first-generation Subaru Impreza Turbo, Vauxhall Vectra, Volvo S70 and Peugeot 205 CTI, but he’s keen to hear from CCW readers who own mass-produced Nineties cars keen to see their cars appear in future episodes.
He said: ‘I started BIG In the ’90s because Nineties cars have become classic and collectible and they are now insurable on classic insurance policies making it much more affordable for people to run them as a second car.
‘The Nineties was also the last time that cars had distinctive national identities – the Citroën XM looked French, Jaguar’s XJ looked very British and Alfa Romeo’s 164 looked unmistakably Italian. I've owned all three and drove them back in the day on Top Gear so I thought it was time to re-visit the Nineties.’
